Man wins right to wear pasta strainer on head for driving licence

An Austrian has won the right to be photographed wearing a pasta strainer for his driving licence on the grounds of religious freedom.

Niko Alm announced the decision on his blog, saying that, after three years of struggle, a psychologist had passed him fit to drive and so he could wear the kitchen implement for the picture ID.

Mr Alm, who calls himself a “pastafarian”, said he belonged to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which lampooned religion.

“Today I was able to get my new driving licence, and in it you can clearly see that I’m wearing a colander on my head to demonstrate my allegiance to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster,” Mr Alm wrote in his blog.

“My headwear has now been recognised by the Republic of Austria.”

One lucky kid…!

A lucky three-year-old boy had a miraculous escape after he fell from a eighth floor balcony and became trapped in the building’s air-conditioning unit.

The toddler, who has not been named, had been left home alone in the apartment in Beijing, China, before he fell.

Neighbours, who heard him screaming in terror, called the police for help. But when they noticed he was starting to slip they decided to take the matter into their own hands.

South Korean Grandmother Fails Driving Test 771 Times

A South Korean grandmother has failed her driving test 771 times, police say, but a local newspaper reports she will keep trying.

The 68-year-old, identified only by her last name Cha, has taken the test almost every working day since 2005 in the southwestern city of Jeonju. She failed again on Monday for the 771st time.

“It was a record-breaking number here,” Choi Yong-Cheol, a police sergeant supervising the test in the city’s Deokjingu district, told AFP.

“I wonder if she will try it again for a 772nd time.”

London gym offers midgets as human weights instead of dumbbells

A GYM in London has replaced its dumbbells with human weights – including dwarves who shout encouragement to motivate exercise.

Gymbox at Bank – in the centre of the capital’s financial district – introduced its bizarre fitness regime with human weights ranging from a 155kg man to a 30kg female.

The human dumbbells wear black leotards with their weights printed across their chests and sit on adapted machines to let the weightlifter visualise what they are lifting.

Student Arrested For Intentionally ‘Breaking Wind’

A student at a Florida school has been arrested after authorities say he was “passing gas” and turned off his classmates’ computers.

According to a report released Friday by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the 13-year-old boy “continually disrupted his classroom environment” by intentionally breaking wind. He then shut off some computers other students were using.

The Spectrum Junior-Senior High School was arrested Nov. 4.

Teen jailed for putting senile grandmother in gangsta rap video

Michael Alfinez, 18, from Lake Worth, Florida, was jailed for 18 months after he admitted to abusing the elderly and various firearms charges.

He was arrested in April after police examined footage from his video camera during a routine traffic stop.

The footage showed Marie Huertas, 85, wearing a full black balaclava and, after repeated instructions, uttering a number of gangsta rap phrases that included expletives.

52 Cows Struck by Lightning

Uruguay — Lightning struck only once – but 52 cows are dead at an Uruguayan ranch. The newspaper El Pais reports that the cows had pressed against a wire fence during a storm when the lightning bolt struck in the northern state of San Jose.

A photograph released by the San Jose Police Department shows the black and brown cows lying dead in a long row.

The newspaper said Friday that veterinarians at the scene confirmed the cause of the deaths, which happened Wednesday. The veterinarians told the newspaper that cows often crowd around fences to seek protection during storms.
